While I was sleeping...

I had discovered that during the time I was asleep and healing, the rest of the Master Vampires had returned to the area, two days after Ankh-Re’s violent attacks. They were all staying in suites at the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco. When they all rushed over, the Queen was somewhat miffed when Huey blocked her and the others from checking in on me, Gad, and Erik.

According to Huey - who wore a smirk on his face while telling me - Queen Makafisa had arranged an impromptu high council meeting at the hotel; they were all patiently waiting for us to get better, so that it could commence.

While I lounged in the great room, cuddling my two cats, I thought about how different everything was going to be. Ranks would be re-arranged, and I had no doubt that Erik would be nominated and accepted into the High Council…especially as he now carried the blood of Lord Huey.

When Gad and Erik were well enough to leave, I asked them to stay on a little longer - Huey had promised that he would.

Yes…things would be different. As Gad said before “Change is definitely in the air.”

Now…if only I could make myself go down into the wine cellar.

OMG...The cellar

Renewal II.

I was relieved to learn that the members of my household remained obedient to my demands - they kept the cameras off while they were in the panic room, and remained there until they were let out from the outside. It would have served no purpose for them to witness the bloody chaos that was created by Ankh-Re.

Huey took it upon himself to take charge of the situation, and I did not mind…I was mostly drifting in and out of a heavy sleep.

As it was, they were somewhat taken aback when they were let out of the panic room by Huey, who was a stranger to them. He told me that it took quite a bit of coaxing on his part to convince everyone that he was a friend, and that they were safe - by emitting an aura of peace and calm.

He first asked Anna and Stanley to come out of the panic room and had the others wait, as he wanted to clean and straighten up the house before letting the others out.

With the exception of Anna and Stanley, Huey did not allow anyone else into my bedroom. No one else was allowed into the rooms that were in use by Gad and Erik either.

I think that it was on the seventh or eighth day that I finally got out of bed. I stood up tentatively on slightly wobbly legs. The leg that was broken was completely healed, and I felt no pain. I slipped into house slippers, and put on a robe that was at the foot of my bed. As I began my shuffle down the hall to one of the guest bedrooms, Anna came up the stairs with a breakfast tray.

“Lord Huey said that you’d probably be hungry this morning…why are you out of bed, madam?”

“I’ve had more than enough sleep, Anna. I want to check in on Gad and Erik. How have they been?”

Anna sat the tray down on a hall table and took me gently by the arm. “They are doing quite well, madam. I’m not sure what happened to them exactly, but they seem fine now. All of you slept quite a lot.” Anna walked with me to the first guest bedroom and opened the door. Erik was still asleep. With his long golden locks spread out across the pillow, he looked like a sleeping angel from a Renaissance painting. The bedclothes were perfectly arranged around his body.

‘Gee…I wonder who’s been taking care of this one so well?” I asked, sarcastically.

Anna’s cheeks turned pink. She began to stutter “Well…well…I took c - care of both gentlemen e -equally, ma’am.”

I patted Anna on the shoulder. “I know you have, Anna. I’m just teasing you. I am so happy to have you. And I’m so thankful that you all are safe and well.”

I got in closer to Erik, and slowly pulled back the covers. He was shirtless. His neck was perfect …flawless. I had expected to see a shallow indentation where his throat was torn out. To my amazement, the evidence of Ankh-Re’s violence was nowhere to be seen.

“Holy Isis!” I muttered.

“Shouldn’t you be sayin’ ’Holy Huey’”? Anna jumped with a start, and I slowly turned around to see Huey standing in the doorway. He was leaning casually on his left shoulder, with his hands in his pants pockets. His jet black hair and black clothing contrasted with his pale skin and the white lock of hair, which at the moment, hung over his left eye.

“My Lord” I said, and bowed my head. Anna took her cue from me and bowed her head as well.

“Really?” Huey sighed, as he walked into the bedroom. He sat down at the foot of the bed, staring at me the whole time.

There was silence for a minute before I spoke up. “My Lord…how is it that Erik’s throat bears no trace of injury?”

Huey chuckled under his breath. “Honey - it is obvious that you are use to Makafisa’s magic. She can patch folks up, bring ‘em to life, but she can’t fine tune ’em like me.”

I raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. I left the room to see to Gad. Like Erik, he was sleeping peacefully. I gently rubbed the soft stubble on his head, then I pulled back the covers. I inhaled deeply at what I saw…smooth unblemished skin. Ankh-Re had practically removed Gad’s head…yet, the head was attached, and there was no scar.

Gad had lost his head twice…once, millennia ago, and recently, by Ankh-Re. And now Gad bore no scar from either beheading.

Right when I tried to get my thoughts around Huey’s great power, Gad opened his eyes.

“Hello, Isis” he said calmly, as he sat up. He got up from bed, completely naked. He saw the surprised expression on my face, and pulled at the bed sheet, wrapping it around his waist.

“Sorry” he said, as he stretched. He walked over to the window, and looked out into the late morning sun.

“Glorious” he mumbled. “I’ve never seen the sun in all it’s glory before.” He turned around and smiled.

I was speechless. Gad was now a daywalker. And even more, there was obvious intelligence and sanity about him.

“Gad” I whispered “Are you okay, my Lord?”

Gad smiled and replied “I’ve never been better, sister. Change is definitely in the air.”
